Abstract

La substituted Sr hexaferrites with compositions SrLaxFe12-xO19 (x = 0; 0.2; 0.5; 1) were prepared by sol-gel selfcombustion. The combusted powders were annealed at different temperatures (800, 900 and 1000 oC) for various annealing times (10, 20, 40, 80, 160 and 320 minutes). Experiments show that Ms and Mr increase both the annealing time and annealing temperature, but coercivity Hc exhibits a spectacular variation with annealing time. Hc significantly increases after short annealing time. For longer annealing time Hc begins to decrease. This variation was explained by the transition from single domain to multidomain particles by increasing annealing time. Thus, by manipulating the annealing time, the crystal growth can be controlled to obtain SrLa hexaferrite having properties for special applications..
