Abstract

A new series of azo-naphthol dye based poly(alkyloxymethacrylate)s with various electron withdrawing and donating substituents in the aromatic ring were synthesized for holographic grating formation studies. These polymers were characterized by UV, IR, 1 H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The photoisomerization studies were performed for all the polymers. The glass transition temperature and thermal stability of the polymers were investigated by DSC and TGA respectively. The optical characterization of the polymers was investigated using Nd-YAG laser. The diffraction grating efficiency was found to depend on the time of exposure and intensity ratio of the incident beam..
