Abstract
This study investigates light scattering by spherical silica particles (m=1.458+0.00i, λ=642 nm) using the Mie and Discrete Dipole Approximation (DDA) methods over a particle diameter range of 0.01–5 μm. The results show that the DDA accurately reproduces Rayleigh scattering, the Rayleigh–Mie transition, and Mie scattering when an appropriate grid resolution is applied. For small particles, accurate results are obtained even with coarse discretization, whereas for larger particles finer grids are required to capture complex scattering features. A grid-128 provides a suitable balance between numerical accuracy and computational efficiency..
