Abstract

One considers a non-relativistic cold plasma containing isothermal electrons (electrons in equilibrium with the local potential), positive ions, a small amount of lighter negative ions, and negatively charged dust grains. Many years ago Watanabe (J. Phys. Soc. Japan, 53,950 (1984)) has shown that for such a plasma, without dust particles, there is a critical concentration of negative ions for which the relevant equation describing the evolution of a nonlinear ion-acoustic wave is the modified KdV equation. The same problem, of dust ion-acoustic solitons evolution, is discussed here for a dusty plasma using convenient stretched variables, for several concentrations of the light negative ions..
