Abstract
We studied the experimental and calculated transmission and reflectivity spectra of a monolayer and a bilayer of periodic array of polystyrene spheres (triangular lattice) on finite glass substrate at normal incidence. We also investigated the nearfield intensity |Ex|2 at different relevant wavelengths for a sampling plane that crosses the monolayer of spheres at equator. We find that transmission and reflectivity minima are related to near-field coupling between neighbouring spheres, forming waveguide photonic modes of the array..
