Abstract

Glasses in the BaO-B2O3-TiO2 system were obtained by melting and ultra fast quenching to avoid crystallization. Melting temperatures were in the range 1100-13500C. The ultra fast device was a twin rolls, with 1.6-2.75 m/s. By cooling of the melt using twin rolls were obtained glass flakes. Glass flakes were transparent and 1 mm thick. The glass structure was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The presence of two and more exothermic peaks on DTA curve of glasses indicates the complex crystallization process..
