Abstract

Band structure calculations were performed on R2Fe14B, R2Fe14C, R2Co14B, R2Fe17 and R2Co17 compounds, where R is a rare earth. The exchange interactions in these systems are discussed in 4f-5d-3d model. Then, we analyse the magnetic properties of Nd-Fe-Si-B and Sm-Fe-Si-C permanent magnets. The magnetocaloric effect in Nd-Fe-Si-B is also estimated. The effects of Fe substitutions by (Co+Al) on the Curie temperatures and anisotropy fields of the hard magnetic phases R2Fe14B (R = Pr,Nd) are presented. Finally, the permanent magnet properties of Sm(Co,Fe,Cu,Zr)z alloys are analysed in correlation with composition and annealing treatments..
