Abstract

Ho3+ doped in CdS: SiO2 glasses with good optical quality were fabricated by sol-gel technique. The glass samples were studied by X-ray diffraction, optical absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Phenomenological Judd–Ofelt theory was applied to obtain the three intensity parameters Ω2, Ω4 and Ω6. Comparatively higher values of Ω2, smaller value Ω4 / Ω6 as well as efficient radiative transitions reveal the prospect of the studied glass as potential optical material in the blue and green regions..
