Abstract

The evolution of nonlinear refractive index coefficient with concentration of disperse blue 1 (DB1) dye in dioxane solution was investigated. Solutions were pumped with He-Ne laser. The values of the nonlinear refractive index coefficient increased exponentially from -5.69×10-8 to -3.4×10-8 cm2/W as the dye concentration increased from 3.7×10-5 to 74.6×10-5 M, and were negative; indicating that the studied solutions acted as a negative lens. Kwak’s formalism was employed in order to characterize the transmission changes and calculate the nonlinear refractive index coefficient values..
