Abstract

TiO2 is extensively studied for photoelectrochemical applications due to its interesting chemical, electrical and optical properties. However, TiO2 has some limitations due to high band gap and, as consequence, an absorption in the ultraviolet region of solar spectrum. The effects of phtalocyanine and meso-tetraphenylporphine, as sensitizer dyes, on TiO2/CdS nanocomposites were investigated in order to extend the absorption spectra of TiO2 in the visible area and to improve its photocatalytic efficiency. The structural/morphological properties of the TiO2/CdS-sensitized nanocomposites have been studied by X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy and microscopy and the optoelectronic properties have been investigated using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy and spectrofluorimetry..
