Abstract

This work presents an intriguing phenomenon which takes place in polyhydridosilanes. Study of the chemical properties of these structures reveals that even at room temperature elemental silicon particles appear within the polymer thin films. To investigate this process polyhydridosilanes with various contents of methylhydridosilyl- groups were synthesized by homogeneous coupling of methyldichlorosilane with diphenyldichlorosilane in specific molecular ratios. Through advanced physico-chemical analyses techniques it was shown that the formation of these particles takes place within the methylhydridosilyl- fragments by self-induced chemical processes..
