The UV fluorescence and absorption spectra of some rare earth bromides

Abstract

The UV fluorescence spectra of polycrystalline power LaBr3(Pr3+), LaBr3(Pr3+ , Ce3+), LaBr3(Nd3+), LaBr3(Eu2+, Ce3+), LaBr3(Dy3+), HoBr3, LuBr3 and ErBr3 were measured, through which some of the energy level information and relative intensity of different emission peaks of the cations in the crystals can be identified. The phenomenon that the relative intensity of fluorescence peaks changes can be attributed to fluorescence trapping effect in different Pr3+ concentration of LaBr3(Pr3+). The excitation spectra of polycrystalline power LaBr3(Pr3+) were measured. The absorption spectrum of single crystal LaBr3(Pr3+) was measured, from which the phenomenological intensity parameters of Pr3+ in LaBr3(Pr3+) can be calculated..
